What Is UGC?
Whatsup friends,
One thing I’m hearing back from you, my community, is just how hard and expensive life is in this weird post-pandemic world. You’re feeling stuck in the grind with hungry mouths to feed rather than spending your days out in the sun with your fam loving life, and the last thing you have time for is yet another hustle no matter how much you want the extra coin.
The truth is though, we’ve all gotten so used to using our phones for leisure day in and day out (did I say leisure? More like escapism…), so I wanted to show you how I switched up doom-scrolling for an easy way to make more money.
Since I joined Instagram almost ten years ago, I have built my profile as an influencer and content creator, and have worked with hundreds of brands to create unique content for their marketing, all through UGC - User Generated Content creation.
So what is User Generated Content anyway?
This is a really fun and, most importantly, accessible industry where you can partner with brands all over the world and showcase your creative side while demonstrating the benefits of a product or service these brands provide. Brands are loving that ordinary, relatable people are creating content that converts without the insanely high overheads of traditional marketing methods, and it’s totally win-win, because you get PAID to make content around things you’d probably recommend anyway!
The perks of being a UGC creator are pretty amazing. You can develop partnerships with brands you already love, create content that builds on skills you have with your individual style, and you can scale and structure your workload to take on as much (or as little) as you want. Say bye doom-scrolling and hello to starting a savings fund!
UGC comes in various forms, including images, videos, reviews, and more, which brands can repurpose as ‘organic’ content on social media platforms or use as part of paid advertising campaigns across marketing channels. Companies often leverage UGC for website and email marketing purposes beyond social media and may occasionally even use it on billboards and bumper ad content.
The best part is you don’t even have to have an audience or build your personal brand if you don’t want to.
Now, you don’t need to have a professional camera by any means, but at least a good quality phone and an editing app will go a long way, but we'll get to all that soon.
Lastly, you really do want to LOVE being a creator while willing to learn some basic key skills in marketing, networking, copywriting, photography, and video. But don’t worry, you can absolutely learn along the way.
